You loved the movie '300' but could not stand the miniskirts they were wearing all the time... You love Greek sculptures... You can spend a lot of time around a work of art by Rodin... This is for you then, Enjoy!

If you're reading this page chances are you're listening at the 2007 Xmas miX. I hope you'll enjoy this year's selection which is less dance but more acoustic and a bit melancholy... I lost someone very dear this year and thus I listened to a lot of calm and sad music...
You'll hear the usual suspects like Rufus, Air, and Bjork and new comers like Andrew Bird or Alex Beaupain.
Here is the detail of the selection:
  • Track 01 Intro 1 'Welcome' (0.10)

  • Track 02 Intro 2 'Baroque' (0.17)

  • Track 03 Intro 3 'Sunrise Sunset' Claudine Longet (0.34)
  •
  • Track 04 'La Bastille', BOF(OST of movie) Les chansons d'Amour, Alex Beaupain (3.24)
One of my favorite movies this year and a great OST.

      On voudrait s’aimer à jamais

      On voudrait s’aimer à jamais
Sous cette pluie que rien ne termine

Il pleut des cordes sur le génie
De la place de la Bastille
      Nous nous couchons avant minuit
Dans des draps chauds qu’on éparpille

Il pleut des cordes sur le génie
On sort des repas de famille
      L’ange ruisselant dans la nuit
Déploie ses ailes sur la Bastille'
  •
  • Track 05 'Bang Bang', Nancy Sinatra (2.40)
    •
    • 'I was five and he was six
We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore black and I wore white
He would always win the fight

      Bang bang
He shot me down, bang bang
I hit the ground , bang bang
      That awful sound, bang bang
      My baby shot me down

Seasons came and changed the time
When I grew up, I called him mine
He would always laugh and say
Remember when we used to play

      Bang bang
I shot you down, bang bang
You hit the ground , bang bang
      That awful sound, bang bang
I used to shoot you down

      Music played and people sang
Just for me the church bells rang

      Now he's gone I don't know why
And till this day some times I cry
      He didn't even say goodbye
He didn't take the time to lie

      Bang bang
He shot me down, bang bang
I hit the ground , bang bang
      That awful sound, bang bang
      My baby shot me down.'
  •
  • Track 06 BOF OST Shortbus, 'Upside Down' Scott Matthew (3.19)
    • Another of my favorite movies this year, great music!
    •
    • I walk a tight rope
and live with the high hope
that somehow we still feel the same
      through this catastrophe
      it's quietly telling me 'welcome'
      -there's that word again

for i don't care if the world's upside down
if you're lost or you're found
i know my feet will stay far from the ground
      if you'd just stick around

i know the shots you call gentle
'cause i could fall and break
      you'll hear what they say
      i read between the lines
      cuts like a hate crime
and tell me today's not the day

for i don't care if the world's upside down
if you're lost or you're found
i know my feet will stay far from the ground
      if you'd just stick around

      you hit a high note
      it comes like a cyclone
and tell me today's not the day

i don't care if the world's upside down
if you're lost or i'm found
i know my feet will stay far from the ground
      if you'd just stick around
      -with me'
    •
  • Track 07 'Heart of Glass', Nouvelle Vague (3.35)
    • When I love a song I try and find other versions of it. This one is by nouvelle Vague a very good French Band. Heart of Glass is a mythical song originally sung by Blondie..
    •
    • 'Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find much o' mistrust
      Love's gone behind
Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
      Much o' mistrust
      Love's gone behind
In between what I find is pleasing and I'm feeling fine
Love is so confusing, there's no peace of mind
If I fear I'm losing you
It's just no good, you teasing like you do
Once I had a love and it was a gas Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find much o' mistrust
      Love's gone behind
      Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I'm the one you're using please don't push me aside
We coulda made it cruising yeah
La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La La
La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La La
Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light
      Ooh, oh
      Ooh, oh
      Ooh, oh
      Ooh, oh
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out to be a pain in the ass
Seemed like the real thing only to find much o' mistrust
      Love's gone behind
      Ooh, oh
      Ooh, oh
      Ooh, oh
      Ooh, oh'

  • Track 08 'Soda Shop' by Jay Brannan BOF (OST) movie Shortbus (3.07)
  • see the video here

The sidewalk is rushing at my head again
I’m lying on the street in the rain and wind
From doing forward rolls down Avenue A
With my guitar on my back don’t let it end this way

Somehow I dialed my cell
I didn’t know I could get service in hell
How quickly can you get here
Don’t know where I am dear
Finally the world actually seems to be revolving around me

Chorus:
Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-wop
I overdid it at the soda shop
Thanks for being my girl at the
I don’t know when to stop sock hop

You held my head over the edge of the bed
I remember it now but at the time I thought I was dead
You put a pan there and held back my hair
How could I repay you for saving me and my hardwood floor?

Chorus:
Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-wop
I overdid it at the soda shop
Thanks for being my girl at the
I don’t know when to stop sock hop

And when the world stops spinning ’round
I picked up pan above the ground
I read my upheaves much like tea leaves
They said it’s over so get sober or you’ll die….
Again……

Chorus:
Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-wop
I overdid it at the soda shop
Thanks for being my girl at the
I don’t know when to stop sock hop

I know all there is to know about the crying game
I've had my share of the crying game

First there are kisses, then there are sighs
And then before you know where you are
You're sayin goodbye

One day soon I'm gonna tell the moon about the crying game
And if he knows maybe hell explain

Why there are heartaches, why there are tears
And what to do to stop feeling blue
When love disappears

I know all there is to know about the crying game
I've had my share of the crying game

First there are kisses, then there are sighs
And then before you know where you are
Youre sayin goodbye

Dont want no more of the crying game
Dont want no more of the crying game
Dont want no more of the crying game
Dont want no more of the crying game

Track 18 'Ma mémoire sale' by Alex Beaupain - sung by Louis Garrel (4,19)
Lave,

Alors

Track 20 'The Departure' by Michael Nyman (3.57)

Go to sleep, may your sweet dreams come true
Just lay back in my arms for one more night
I've this crazy old notion that calls me sometimes
Saying this one's the love of our lives.

Cause I know a love that will never grow old
And I know a love that will never grow old.

When you wake up the world may have changed
But trust in me, I'll never falter or fail
Just the smile in your eyes, it can light up the night,
And your laughter's like wind in my sails.

Cause I know a love that will never grow old
And I know a love that will never grow old.

Lean on me, let our hearts beat in time,
Feel strength from the hands that have held you so long.
Who cares where we go on this rutted old road
In a world that may say that we're wrong.

Cause I know a love that will never grow old
And I know a love that will never grow old.

(PS: Emmylou, I love you!)

I don't necessarily feel sorry for all the majors which are loosing a lot of money right now because we buy less and less CD's but I feel for musicians and artits and I have two very interesting pieces of news.

Daft Punk, (Myspace Daft Punk page here) one of my favorite bands said recently in an interview that the real job of bands was to perform and they have decided to focus their activities on great live shows. Their new album which will be out shortly will be a recording of their last concert in Paris Bercy. I totally agree with them.

Radiohead, decided to sell their latest album directly to their fans online (without any major interference) and I just bought it yesterday. Besides the fact that the album is very good (good mix of rock and ballads) the way to purchase it online is just great and very simple: You go to
their website, your order the digital album and you pay the amount that you deem fair (I paid 10 euros). Just the way it should be!!!

Music is not dead! On the contrary it might just be reborn now!
